Since 1998, we have worked with over 800 clients that have raised approximately $1B in investment capital. After 15 years it is still fresh and never boring. Our clients' enthusiasm remains contagious. And our goals have remained steadfast – to provide the planning, objectivity, words, visuals, and at this point, years of experience, to get our clients’ ideas realized.
A combination of practiced entrepreneurs, disciplined MBAs, and communications professionals, we think strategically and creatively.
"Your process was very valuable. We were planning on doing many things at once and you helped crystallize and focus our ideas in a short timeframe. It would have been more costly to do this internally and we wouldn't have had the same results."
Douglas Clark, President & CEO
"We had a great experience working with Venture Architects. They are grounded in business strategy and communications, so they were able to take our enthusiasm and turn it into a logo and brand for us that truly encapsulates our beliefs and vision. The process was managed in an incredibly professional way – we learned a lot from Venture Architects."
Lewis Gersh, Managing Partner
"Venture Architects is the top drawer when it comes to helping early stage companies assemble their business plans and funding strategy. They were instrumental at the dawn of The Receivables Exchange and with my previous company as well. I can readily attest to the insight and quality of their work."
Nic Perkin, Co-Founder
"Venture Architects truly took the time to understand our business and objectives, and thus were able to deliver investor documents specifically tailored to our needs. They dove into the details with us but also really got our big picture. Best of all, they went beyond our expectations."
Todd Horowitz, Co-Founder & CEO
"As good as I was at presenting the value proposition for consumers, I was out of my league when the "money people" wanted answers. Venture Architects identified what was missing from my pitch, and worked with me on a financial model that addressed multiple scenarios. I give Venture Architects full credit for an outstanding document that ultimately brought us our first round of capital."
Lisa Cohen, Founder & CEO, WitStream
"Venture Architects quickly got to the essence of our business, asked the right questions and brought the answers to life. From the articulation of our business strategy to creating a format and copy that resonated. This was confirmed by the business plan competition that we won and the positive feedback that we received from investors in the Northeast, Miami and Silicon Valley. But the icing on the cake were your introductions to board members and investors."
Robert Rounsavall, CEO
"Our business plan was shopped from Palo Alto to Milan with never a "cross" word said about it. One VC said that it was the best plan he had read in 10 years."
David Goodman, President & CEO
"Venture Architects is comprised of very intelligent people that are hard working and customer oriented. While I had my doubts about outsourcing the business plan and financials, in hindsight, I can say that Venture Architects was an excellent demonstration of sound business judgment."
Joel Studin, Chief Executive Officer
Below is a good representation of the wonderful range and randomness of the companies we have worked with over the past 15 years.
Below are answers to the questions that we get asked the most. Clearly, we like playing offense rather than defense.
So, what buildings have you designed?
We are not architects in the truest sense of the word. We are "venture" architects. We architect early and growth stage businesses. If you are an engineer or have CAD experience, please refrain from sending us your resume. And no Hank, we are not changing our name!
How do I get started?
We want to hear your business story. If you already have a business plan, we suggest that you go under the microscope and start with our Business Plan Inspection. If your plan is in your head, then an initial consultation is the best place to begin. If you are seeking other services, an initial consultation is still the way to get started. We charge a fee for the inspection or consultation. As one happy client chirped, "The best $250 I've spent since I finished paying my divorce attorney."
How long is a typical engagement?
Typical engagements run from 1-6 months depending on the deliverables and the availability of your team to answer questions, make decisions and provide feedback. We don't believe in consultants that attach themselves to your ankle and hang on for life. Rather, we believe that entrepreneurs need compact, action-oriented engagements. Our process is designed to drive fast toward the goals that we establish together.
Do you specialize in any particular industries?
We are industry agnostic. Our specialty is not in a single industry, but rather in understanding what investors need to know to make an investment decision. We wear the investor's hat and poke and probe your business without bias.
What size companies do you work with?
Over the past 14 years, we have worked with businesses of all sizes. However, the majority of our clients are typically seeking $1 - $20 million in investment capital. Some entrepreneurs approach us with even less than an idea on a napkin, while others have established businesses that need follow-on rounds of investment capital. Approximately 50% of our clients are pure start-ups while the other 50% are generating revenue and want to accelerate their growth.
Do you make introductions to investors?
Yes, but not all the time. We are careful and selective. We don't want to give you false hope or waste investors' time. If we don't know the right folks, we'll let you know upfront.
Is what I tell you confidential?
Our lips are sealed. Prior to engagement, and just like venture capitalists, we do not sign confidentially agreements for each business concept that is pitched to us. We have been in business for over 14 years and wouldn't still be here if we were blabbing about our clients' companies. It's for this very reason that we're quite boring at cocktail parties.
However, if you are uber-concerned about confidentiality, we ask you not to reveal your deepest, darkest secrets upfront. Should you elect to work with us, our engagement agreement does include a comprehensive confidentially clause that pledges us to safeguard your company information. And each of our team members has signed a strict confidentially agreement with Venture Architects LLC.
